Background

Amber Leberman pursued formal training in journalism at the University of Missouri - Columbia. In the School of Journalism she studied and practiced reporting, ethics, new media, graphics management (photo editing and art direction) and magazine design. She augmented these studies with courses in drawing, the creative process and world religions.

She completed a Dow Jones Newspaper Fund online editing internship with the Chicago Tribune.

She graduated Phi Beta Kappa with degrees in journalism and religious studies, then began her professional career as a designer for The Sun, a photo-driven suburban Chicago weekly where she developed strong professional relationships with writers, photographers and illustrators.

Leberman is currently Web Manager & Associate Art Director for The Lutheran magazine (www.thelutheran.org), a monthly 64-page, four-color magazine (circulation 400,000). The web edition attracts 90,000 visitors each month.

On June 17 she relaunched www.thelutheran.org, redesigned as a membership-based, fee-for-content site. She worked with a developer to migrate the formerly 5,000 .html-page site into a content management database.

Leberman values content-driven design. In any situation, she strives to best showcase the work of her colleagues, whether in print or on the Web.

A journalist through-and-through, she is as comfortable assigning and editing articles as she is designing pages and coding HTML.
